The Location
Nicknamed by Switzerland of India’s
east, Haflong is situated in the southern part of Assam state.
What is special in Haflong?
Before we decide to visit a
place, we need to know what is very special there.
Well, I am happy to let you
know that Haflong is the only hill station in Assam state.
It is a lovely place for nature
lovers with a beautiful lake, waterfalls and a mysterious bird’s suicide squad
called ‘Jatinga’.

Haflong
Hills: - Hills with covered by a green forest
sheet and a peaceful fresh environment can make a calmness smile on your face.

Jatinga: - A mysterious place, infamous as the bird’s suicide squad.
It is said that during September-October month birds come here and became
unable to fly away again. Finally, local hunters killed them for their meat. It
is located 5.4 km away from Haflong town.

Maibong: - Maibong is a historical destination, where one can observe
the history of Dimasa-Kachari kingdom. It is a small town located 53.5 Km away
from Haflong town.

Haflong
Lake: - I don’t really know, have you
ever visit it or not. But one thing I want to clear that Haflong Lake has no
comparison to any other destination located here. Only after seeing this you
will know why Haflong is called Switzerland of the east.

Bendao
Baglai Waterfalls: - Bendao Baglai waterfalls
is located in a small village named Smaparidisa. This small village is situated
in the lower area of Dima Hasao district and only 13 Km away from Haflong.
There is a fictional story behind this waterfall that once two sisters took
their lives by jumping into this waterfall. Actually, this waterfall got its
name from this fictional story. In Dimasa language, ‘Bendao’ means ‘two
sisters’ and ‘Baglai’ means ‘suicide’.
How we can reach?
By Air: - There are no direct air services to Haflong. The nearest
airport is located at Kumbhirgram in Silchar. It is situated 105.8 Km (Through
NH 27) away from Haflong town.
By Road: - Buses and taxies are available. You can travel through a public
bus or can hire a taxi. By bus, it will cost 4 hours and 32 minutes from
Silchar town.
By Train: - The nearest railway station ‘New Halflong Station Rd’ is on
6.9 km away from the main town. If you want to enjoy its scenic beauty from
rail then it would be again another good choice for you.
Best time to travel
Typically the whole year is the best time travel Haflong but
I personally recommend you to travel during winter.
The cold weather and romantic environment will make you
happier during this season. (From November-March)
